Objective: We report the clinical result of a case of transverse astigmatic keratotomy ( TAK) for correction of astigmatism after keratoplasty for 1year follow-up.
Methods and Material: After we performed TAK on a patient who complained poor vision due to high astigmatism after penetrating keratoplasty 15years ago, we evaluated retrospectively the efficacy of TAK by his visual acuity, corrected visual acuity, keratometry, photokeratoscopy and corneal topography.
Results: TAK on this patient resulted in improvement of his best corrected visual acuity from 0.1 (0.3X+1.00Ds-10.00 DcAx100¡Æ) to 0.03(0.6X -7.00Ds -4.5Dc Ax55¡Æ) and correction of astigmatism by 4.25 D(diopters) with myopic shift on refraction and 5.30D within 3mm zone on corneal topography at 1year after TAK. and there was nearly no change of astigmatism except small change of axis in this case until 1year follow-up.
Conclusions: TAK is an effective and a safe procedure for correction of postkeratoplasty astigmatism and has persisting and unchanging powers in correction of astigmatism.
